Note: The City of Boulder Open Data Catalog will be migrating to a new platform in fall 2020. A link to the new dataset location is included here under 'Data and Resources'. Please bookmark https://open-data.bouldercolorado.gov/ as the future site of Boulder Open Data.
In 2018 through 2019, the City of Boulder completed a citywide retail study to: 1) understand the current retail environment; 2) identify performance relative to benchmark cities; 3) understand performance relative to the City’s core values; 4) understand small business sustainability; 5) create a framework for pursuing the Citywide Retail Strategy. The entire study resulted in a final report presented to Boulder City Council in July 2019, which can be found on the project’s website. All community engagement efforts are also summarized on the project website (https://bouldercolorado.gov/business/citywide-retail-project).
The dataset included here is from one component of the retail study, a public survey to understand community needs and retail behavior. The project team reached out to the community via postcards and mailers, at community events, and through partner organizations to advertise the online questionnaire. 916 people completed the survey in the Spring of 2019. Please note that the survey is not a statistically representative sample, and participants were self-selected. Self-selection can result in biases since the data reflected in the results is self-reported behavior.
